For more than two decades, Aelius Atelier has approached architecture as a collaborative discipline — integrating design, construction, and interiors to deliver coherent environments across India. Guided by research and context, we work at every scale from private residences to urban masterplans.
About
Founded in Hyderabad, Aelius Atelier LLP is a multidisciplinary practice spanning architecture, interior design, and construction management. Our work is rooted in the belief that the built environment should respond to climate, culture, and the people who inhabit it — not to trends alone.
We maintain a single studio culture across all disciplines, allowing ideas to move fluidly between drawing board and site. This integration reduces friction, preserves design intent, and produces buildings that are as carefully detailed on the inside as they are resolved on the outside.

Areas of expertise
Our practice is organised around five overlapping disciplines. Projects often draw on more than one — a hotel may require architecture, interiors, and landscape simultaneously.
We invest in research at the intersection of environmental performance and cultural continuity, particularly in the Deccan and coastal regions where we do most of our work.
We design buildings that respond to site, climate, and programme — from private homes to commercial campuses. Our architectural work is characterised by material honesty, passive environmental strategy, and a refusal to treat sustainability as an afterthought.
Every project begins with close study of context: light, wind, topography, and the social life of the place. We favour durable materials — stone, timber, concrete — left to age naturally rather than disguised behind applied finishes.
Our urban projects address the growing complexity of Indian cities — balancing density, mobility, and public space. We work with municipalities, developers, and institutions to produce frameworks that can evolve over time.
Masterplans are tested against walkability, water management, and the social mix of neighbourhoods before they are fixed. We believe good urbanism is measured in daily experience, not renderings.
Adaptive reuse and renovation form a significant part of our practice. We work with existing structures — havelis, industrial buildings, colonial-era offices — to find new life without erasing history.
Transformation projects demand forensic understanding of original construction, patient negotiation with heritage authorities, and design restraint. The best interventions are often the ones you notice second.
Landscape is treated as architecture at ground level — shaping how people move, gather, and experience weather. We integrate planting, water, and paving into the structural logic of each project from the outset.
Our landscapes favour native species, permeable surfaces, and shade strategies suited to Indian climates. Courtyards, terraces, and roof gardens extend usable area without increasing footprint.
Interior design at Aelius Atelier is conceived as spatial choreography — light, proportion, material, and furniture working together. We design bespoke joinery and source finishes that age well in India's climate.
From penthouses in Mumbai to spa retreats in Coorg, our interiors share a common discipline: restraint, craft, and attention to how spaces are actually lived in rather than photographed.
